Northern Ireland European Development (NIED)

Regulation (EC) 715/2009 requires the development of European network codes (EUNCs) to improve access arrangements in the European gas market. The implementation of these European codes in Northern Ireland will require significant changes to the current transmission network codes as well as to systems and procedures. The first code to be implemented is the code on Capacity Allocation Mechanisms (CAM) in November 2015. Information on the process and timetable for development of the EUNCs is available on the ACER website.

As part of the project to implement the EUNCs we have also implemented single system operation in Northern Ireland.  This work has established a single transmission code, single IT system and single TSO team to represent NI.
We previously consulted on the implementation of single system operation in Northern Ireland. The consultation and decision papers provide useful background information for this project.

Together the implementation of the EUNCs and single system operation in NI will be referred to as the Northern Ireland European Development (NIED) project.

Please refer to the individual pages for further information.  This portal is intended as a source of key information for industry on the project and will be updated on a regular basis.
