Job description

Working within Retail and Consumer Protection directorate, you will provide written and numerical analysis and policy advice relating to the regulation of the energy retail sector (both electricity and gas).  You will work across a variety of functions within a team-based environment and contribute to the delivery of Utility Regulator aims and objectives by analysing and advising on issues relating to the regulation of the energy retail sector. These roles are well suited to persons with strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills paired with excellent interpersonal skills. Any experience in the regulated energy sector and/or in utility regulation will also be valuable.

Essential Criteria

1.  A minimum of three years working experience in a complex business or regulatory environment to include evidence of excellent analytical skills of written and numerical information from a wide variety of sources to:

  • clearly research and evaluate policy issues;
  • undertake financial analysis using spreadsheets and/or other modelling tools; and
  • undertake policy analysis using a mix of qualitative and quantitative techniques.

2.   A minimum of two years experience in a complex business or regulatory environment which demonstrates your ability to synthesize your analysis into complex technical, regulatory or commercial reports in order to design and evaluate solutions, policy options and/or advice to senior management.

3.   Evidence of significant experience which demonstrates excellent verbal and communication skills such as:

  • presenting policy analysis and advice to senior management;
  • drafting comprehensive, well structured and detailed policy documents/reports; and
  • demonstrating confidence in dealing with a wide variety of stakeholders such as government, private, voluntary and regulated companies.

4.   Evidence of significant experience that demonstrates excellent organisational and project management skills, including a proven track record of working to tight deadlines with a high degree of individual responsibility.

5.   Evidence of significant experience which demonstrates excellent teamworking, interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships in a challenging environment.
