Summary

The Utility Regulator today publishes a consultation paper on a new Energy Theft Codes of Practice.

The project was identified as a priority element of our Consumer Protection Strategy which was launched earlier this year. Once completed, the Codes will eventually apply to network operators and suppliers in both gas and electricity.

Energy theft can have serious safety consequences and increases costs for all energy consumers. The objective of the Energy Theft Code of Practice is to protect gas and electricity consumers from the safety issues and costs related to energy theft.

The consultation seeks industry and stakeholder views on the high level design, principles and contents of the Energy Theft Codes of Practice.

Copies of the document will be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of relevant minority languages if required.
