Utility Regulator consults on CAG single approach to gas quality

Consultation opened on . Closing date at 12:15.

Summary

As part of the Common Arrangements for Gas (CAG) Project the Commission for Energy Regulation and the Utility Regulator (the Regulatory Authorities) have published a consultation paper assessing a single approach to gas quality. The two jurisdictions currently operate under different gas quality specifications. This would create significant difficulties for the future operation of the networks as one system, given the potential incompatibility between gas either side of the border.

On 24th April 2008 Bord Gáis Networks submitted a report to the Commission for Energy Regulation on the issue of gas quality in the Republic of Ireland. This report forms the basis of much of the consultation paper published for comment today by the Regulatory Authorities. The report has two sets of recommendations: gas quality specifications and measurement arrangements, which are outlined in section two of this paper.

Comments to the paper are requested by close of business on Friday 18th July 2008 and should be sent to Robert O’Rourke in the Commission for Energy Regulation by e-mail to rorourke@cer.ie or by post to:
