Consultation published on the proposed form of electricity generation licence for Synchronous Condensers

The purpose of this consultation is to seek responses to the proposed modifications to the licence conditions which the Utility Regulator (UR) intends to make under Article 14 of The Electricity (Northern Ireland) Order 1992.

The implementation of this modified electricity generation licence for Synchronous Condensers will allow the UR to ensure the facilitation and promotion of the transparent and non-discriminatory treatment of all Synchronous Condenser operators who wish to participate in the Single Electricity Market (SEM).

This consultation paper provides an overview of the proposed modifications and contains a clean copy of the proposed Synchronous Condenser Licence, as well as a version showing the proposed changes.

This consultation period will close at 5 pm on 1 September 2026. The UR will issue a decision on this consultation within three months of the closing date. Further details on the consultation and how to respond are available in our consultation section.

Copies of all documents can be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of relevant minority languages if required.
