The Utility Regulator has issued guidance to aid the digitalisation of data between NIE Networks’ Transmission and Distribution licence and SONI’s electricity license.
This guidance paper follows on from our decision paper and licence modification process, published in April 2025 on the requirement for NIE Networks and SONI to develop, publish and periodically update a joint digitalisation strategy and an action plan.
The Guidance Paper should be used as an insight on what we hope to come from this licence condition. The key elements of the guidance include:
Prioritising consumer and public interest.
Defining a clear vision.
Delivering early benefits.
Enabling stakeholder understanding.
Ensuring visibility of actions.
Measuring success.
Coordination with the wider eco system.
Cybersecurity.
The new licence condition is now in place. We expect NIE Networks and SONI to follow the published timetable to develop and submit their first Digitalisation Strategy and Action Plan.
