Northern Ireland’s Consumer Energy Charters launched for Winter 2025/2026

Extra support measures are being put in place for consumers this winter, as Northern Ireland’s Domestic and Small Business Consumer Energy Charters are launched.

The launch marks the second year of the Small Business Energy Charter and the fourth year of the Domestic Consumer Energy Charter.

Electricity and gas suppliers in Northern Ireland have voluntarily committed to the new energy charters which are applicable from 1 November 2025 to 31 March 2026.

Their development has been led by the Utility Regulator in partnership with gas and electricity supply companies, the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, the Department for Communities, the Department for the Economy, Advice NI and Make the Call.

Consumers who are concerned about paying their bills are encouraged to get in touch with their supplier as soon as possible.

Electricity and gas suppliers will treat you with empathy and respect and will consider reasonable repayment plan options. All suppliers have trained staff who are happy to help.

Whether you’re worried about paying your bills, or you are in debt to your energy supplier already, if you engage with your supplier they will work with you.
