Extra support is being put in place for consumers this winter, as Northern Ireland's Consumer Energy Charters for winter 2026/2027 are launched.
This marks the third year of the Small Business Energy Charter and the fifth year of the Domestic Consumer Energy Charter.
All electricity and gas suppliers in Northern Ireland have voluntarily committed to the new energy Charters which are applicable from 1 November 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Their development has been led by the Utility Regulator in partnership with gas and electricity suppliers and the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland. The Charters are supported by the Department for Communities, the Department for the Economy, Advice NI and Make the Call.
The Charters provide enhanced protections for domestic and small business consumers during the winter, in particular for those who are struggling to pay for their electricity or gas. They also highlight protections that are in place all year round.
We want consumers to feel more supported, confident and informed when making decisions about their energy. Whether you are experiencing affordability difficulties, comparing tariffs or needing advice, there is support available to help you.
