Approval of the common settlement rules for intended exchanges of energy between synchronous areas

Commission Regulation (EU) 2017/2195 establishing a guideline on electricity balancing (EBGL) creates a number of requirements on Regulatory Authorities across Europe to review and approve a range of proposals submitted by TSOs.

One such proposal comprises the rules for the common settlement of intended exchanges of energy between synchronous areas resulting from the frequency containment process and ramping restrictions. This was submitted in accordance with Article 50(4) of the EBGL.

On 10 January 2020 the Utility Regulator requested amendment to the all asynchronously connected TSOs’ proposal for common settlement rules for intended exchanges of energy between synchronous areas as a result of the frequency containment process and of ramping restrictions. The letter below sets out our decision to approve the revised version as per the concerned Regulatory Authorities’ agreement reached on 22 May 2020.
