Job description

Protecting Northern Ireland’s energy and water consumers today and tomorrow is what we do.

At a time of unprecedented energy prices and the challenge of tackling climate change, the work of the Utility Regulator has never been more high profile or important.

This is a great time to join us as we look to support the move to net-zero, whilst providing a stable investment environment, develop energy markets and improve consumer protection.

And we are changing too. You’ll be joining an organisation that is growing and transforming to meet the challenges of the future and protecting consumers in a changing world.

We offer an attractive package including a competitive starting salary with stepped increases per annum, alongside a range of other benefits including hybrid working, NI Civil Service (NICS) pension arrangements and 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 days after two years) and an additional 12 public and privilege days.

Regulation Analysts - Markets

As a Regulation Analyst within the Utility Regulator, you will be responsible for providing analysis and advice on energy (electricity and gas) issues, as they relate to NI consumers, and to the companies we regulate. In addition, you will play an active role in supporting the organisation as it supports government initiatives as part of the climate change transition.

You will have the opportunity to work across a variety of functions within a team-based environment, and actively contribute to the delivery of Utility Regulator aims and objectives.

This role is ideally suited for someone with a background in regulation, economics or data analysis with good analytical skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to build and maintain open positive stakeholder relationships. Alongside these interpersonal skills, any previous experience within a regulated sector, consumer protection/advocacy role, or understanding of the legal and regulatory framework underpinning regulation, particularly in an energy market context, would be an advantage.

The closing date for applying is:  2.00pm, Friday 10 May 2024

Reserve lists may be created from this competition in order to fill any additional roles which may arise and may be placed across the organisation

Contact us at recruitment@uregni.gov.uk  if you would like to talk to someone about the work we do and what it’s like working here.

Northern Ireland continues to have an under-representation of women across our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industries. The Utility Regulator is an Equal Opportunities and Disability Confident Employer. As people with a disability, people from ethnic minority communities and women are currently underrepresented in the Utility Regulator, we would particularly welcome applications from these groups.
