We have published our April newsletter, which provides an update on our work over the past month.
Alongside progress on our key regulatory priorities, we also spent time this month engaging directly with stakeholders and attending a range of industry events. This helps ensure our work is informed by real‑world experience.
This month, we bid a fond farewell to our departing Board Members, Claire Williams and David de Casseres.
We also wished a very happy retirement to our outgoing Estates, IT, Health and Safety and Records Management Manager, Ian Campbell, and outgoing Head of Electricity Price Controls, John Mills.
On Wednesday 1 April, we were pleased to host the first of four events planned for 2026, delivered in partnership with NI Chamber as part of this year’s Regional Networking Series.
On the same date, we approved and published the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programmes (NISEP) schemes for 2026/2027.
On 2 April, it was announced that NISEP will be extended for two years, from 1 April 2027 until 31 March 2029, in continued collaboration with the Department for the Economy.
The NISEP Framework Document for April 2027 – March 2029 will be published at the end of September 2026, along with a ‘Call for Schemes’.
On Wednesday 15 April, we held our eighth joint Energy Forum with Energy Institute Northern Ireland at Riddel Hall, Belfast.
On Wednesday 22 April, our Chief Executive, John French, was pleased to give evidence to Westminster's Northern Ireland Affairs Committee in London. The session examined the fuel and energy challenges faced in Northern Ireland resulting from the outbreak of the Iran war.
We are committed to supporting a Just Transition to net zero and to understanding consumer expectations and any new vulnerabilities arising from the energy transition.
To inform this work, we published deliberative research on the Just Transition on 14 April.
Throughout April, we also published several other important documents, including:
A consultation on proposed Demand Side Unit electricity generation and electricity supply licences for Durham Street Energy Limited (1 April).
A consultation on amendments to SONI’s licence revenue formula to facilitate Clean Energy Package costs and k-factor changes ( 9 April).
A consultation on proposals to modify NIE Networks’ distribution and transmission licences to provide additional allowances which will improve the resilience of the network during severe weather events (23 April).
In this edition, we’re spotlighting our Consumer Protection Manager (Future Consumers Lead), Graham Smith and Regulatory Analyst, Aidan Girvan.
We are also recruiting for a number of opportunities across the organisation, including:
- Green Gas Manager - closing on 1 May.
- Regulatory Analysts (multiple vacancies) - closing on 6 May.
