Utility Regulator’s decision paper for supplier of last resort in gas

The Utility Regulator today publishes its gas supplier of last resort: decision paper. Regulations have already been put in place through the Gas (Supplier of Last Resort) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009 and can be viewed here.

The decision paper outlines the proposed practical arrangements for appointing a supplier or suppliers of last resort, should it become necessary. The specific role of the supplier or suppliers of last resort will be to manage the transfer of the outgoing gas supplier’s customers and maintain normal conditions of supply. This will ensure continuity of gas supply for non-domestic and domestic customers connected to the gas network.

In March 2011, the Utility Regulator published a consultation paper on supplier of last resort in gas and received the following three responses:

The Consumer Council
• Phoenix Natural Gas Limited
• Phoenix Supply Limited

Having considered all responses and representations made to the consultation, the Utility Regulator now publishes its arrangements for supplier of last resort in gas.

Copies of the document will be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of minority languages if required.
