Gas to the West consultation opens

Published:

Consultation opened on . Closing date at 18:00.

Summary

The Utility Regulator today publishes a consultation paper and supporting documentation (see below) on bringing gas to the west of Northern Ireland. The paper seeks the views of interested parties on how the competitive process to award the necessary gas conveyance licence(s) should be conducted. It is intended that the necessary licence(s) will be granted in early 2014.

In January 2013, the Northern Ireland Executive announced up to £32.5m of subvention for the project. It has been stated that the project could deliver up to an estimated £200m of private sector investment, and the provision of natural gas would allow commercial and domestic consumers in the proposed areas to substantially reduce their energy costs and green house gas emissions.

As part of the consultation process, we will be hosting a workshop at our office on 7 May 2013 at 10.00am. If you would like to attend, please email Graham Craig .

We previously published a discussion paper and hosted a workshop on how we might deliver the project. The consultation paper published today draws on the feedback from this process.

Copies of the document will be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of relevant minority languages if required.
