Draft Determination published for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (NI)’s next price control

We have published our draft determination for SSE Airtricity Gas Supply (NI)’s next price control, for the period April 2027 to March 2031. We refer to this price control as SPC27.

The draft determination outlines our proposals for the scope, duration, operating cost allowance and profit margin for SPC27.

The purpose of SPC27 is to set an efficient level of revenue for SSE Airtricity which they collect through their regulated gas tariffs. In determining the price control allowances, we scrutinise and challenge SSE Airtricity’s Business Plan submission and review the cost forecasts. We then set out the charges that SSE Airtricity can recover, ensuring the customer base receives a quality service at a reasonable cost.

Over the four-year price control period, we have proposed that SSE Airtricity receives an allowance of £57.6 million in operating costs. We are proposing a margin that is equivalent to 2% of turnover. The allowances provided for within this next price control constitute approximately 10% of a typical domestic customer’s bill (as of the 1 April 2026 tariff rate).

Our draft determination is being published for consultation and we would encourage you to make your views known to us. It is important that we are provided with a range of responses that will help us deliver the most robust and informed decisions as we finalise this next price control for SSE Airtricity.

The publication of the draft determination follows on from our SPC27 Proposed Approach Consultation, which was published in July 2025 and our SPC27 Final Approach document which was published in November 2025.

The consultation is open until 5:00pm on 28 August 2026. Further details on the draft determination and how to respond are available in our consultation section.

Following our review of the consultation responses, we plan to publish our Final Determination on the price control and a consultation on the licence modifications in October 2026. The licence modifications consultation period will last for four weeks and details of how to respond will be provided at the time of publication.
