Latest Utility Regulator newsletter published

We have published our latest newsletter, which provides an update on our work during April.

In addition to our daily activities, this month we have been engaging with our stakeholders by participating in speaking engagements and hosting stakeholder meetings. We also co-hosted an industry forum.

On Tuesday 8 April, our Chief Executive, John French, delivered an overview of utility regulation for a net zero future to delegates attending the Northern Ireland Environment Forum 2025.

On Thursday 10 April, our Board Members were delighted to host the Board of the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland at our office in Queens House.

We co-hosted an industry forum in Dundalk on Friday 11 April with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, SONI and Eirgrid on a proposed Single Electricity Market Multi-Year Markets Plan.

Also in April, we hosted a stakeholder meeting, during which SONI provided an update on their Annual Performance Report 2023/2024.

This month, we published our Decision on proposed modifications to high pressure gas conveyance licences.

We also published our Final Determination for Power NI’s Price Control for 2026-2029 and a consultation on proposed licence modifications.

These modifications will give effect to the decisions made in the Final Determination, and we would encourage you to make your views known to us.

In April, we approved the Northern Ireland Sustainable Energy Programme (NISEP) Schemes for 2025-2026, which have been published.

We also published responses submitted by stakeholders on SONI’s Performance for 2023/2024.

Our decision paper on the introduction of licence modifications regarding digitalisation to NIE Networks’ Transmission and Distribution and SONI’s electricity licenses was published this month.

Further to this, licence modifications which introduced mandatory customer service measures into all domestic supply licences came into effect on 24 April.

On the same date, we granted a new electricity supply licence to Erova Energy Limited.

In this edition of our monthly newsletter, we’re focusing on some of the staff who produced our recently published Power NI Final Determination and consultation on proposed licence modifications.

These are our Director of Price Controls, Elaine Cassidy and Price Controls Manager, Fiona Rooney.

We would be delighted to hear any feedback you have on our newsletter and any issues you would like to see covered in future editions, via info@uregni.gov.uk.
