Utility Regulator scrutiny achieves £11 million in efficiencies for Northern Ireland gas consumers

The Utility Regulator today announced that its review of local gas company expenditure plans has netted £11 million of efficiency savings for Northern Ireland consumers.

The Regulator announcement follows a price control process which looked at the expenditure plans of two local gas companies, firmus energy ltd distribution and Phoenix Supply Ltd.

Commenting on the outcome of the review, Utility Regulator Chief Executive, Iain Osborne said:

“We are determined to make sure that utility companies in Northern Ireland are well run and efficient. Our price control work protects the interests of consumers by making sure that the utility companies operate as efficiently as possible. It also ensures that gas companies can invest wisely in a modern infrastructure that protects the long-term interests of gas customers.”
