UR publishes market update on possible cancellation of remaining GUAs

The Utility Regulator today publishes a market update on the possible cancellation of the remaining two Generating Unit Agreements (GUAs) in Northern Ireland. This market update follows a consultation paper that was published on 19 March 2014.  Today we also publish the responses to that consultation. These GUAs are managed on behalf of consumers by Power NI Energy Limited’s Power Procurement Business (PPB) and relate to two generating units at Ballylumford power station that are owned by AES.

Our principal objective is to protect the interests of consumers and, in doing so, we have kept under review the benefit of these contracts to consumers.

A further update on this issue will be provided following our Board meeting in September 2014.

Copies of the document will be made available in large print, Braille, audio cassette and a variety of minority languages if required.
